Fall Guys studio accidentally leaks the source code onto Steamer
The weekend got off to what was likely a very interesting begin for Fall Guys studio Mediatonic, which apparently—somehow—managed to making water the game's reference code in an extrinsic Steam clean update.
The full-page thing was deleted very quick, of path, but not before the big banana tree-slip was noticed and captured for posterity by SteamDB God Almighty Pavel Djundik.
I now genuinely believe someone saw your twinge, yelled "oh shit!" and deleted it every bit fast as possible https://t.conscientious objector/M7VNqCz2cjMay 14, 2021
The name of the directory through which everything flowed out into the digital ether—"BackUpThisFolder_ButDontShipItWithYourGame"—makes the whole thing appear even funnier from an foreigner's perspective, but IT's actually automobile-generated by Integrity to contain data required to debug games, including PDB files and C++ code generated from scripts. Just in case the folder name isn't sufficiently exonerated, the Unity docs also warn the developers "should back up this folder for every build you ship, but don't redistribute it."
The incident is about certainly not seen as funny by Mediatonic, though. Surrender Guys, similar most multiplayer games, has struggled with cheaters, and having access to the origin code makes it such easier for cheat makers to explicate new, Thomas More hard-hitting ways of ruining everyone's fun. Hopefully it won't become a problem—Mediatonic moved quick to take the files offline—but I'm non super capable that the code didn't finish up in somebody's hands before IT was remote, and this stuff has a way of getting around quickly.
I've reached out to Mediatonic for more selective information nigh the leak (particularly, how it happened), and will update if I receive a reply. In the lag, never forget:
